Dobri Paliev is a Bulgarian percussionist, timpanist, and educator with an active international career in both performance and education. Born into a family with deep traditions in percussion, he grew up in an environment that shaped his early interest in music and his professional development.

Paliev graduated from the National School of Music “Lyubomir Pipkov” in Sofia (1988–2000), where he studied percussion with Prof. Dr. Dobri Paliev, Maria Palieva, and Iskra Palieva. He continued his education at the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia (2000–2005), studying percussion under Prof. Dr. Tatiana Karparova and Maria Palieva, and obtained a Master of Arts degree in 2005. Between 2003 and 2004, he specialized in solo timpani with Prof. André Malashenko of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in Canada.

In his professional career, Dobri Paliev was a member of one of the oldest percussion ensembles in the world, Ensemble “Polyrhythmia” (2003–2018). From 2005 to 2020, he served as principal timpanist and percussionist with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Between 2009 and 2018, he taught percussion at the National School of Music “Lyubomir Pipkov” in Sofia. Since 2017, he has been Head of the Western Percussion Department at Qatar Music Academy in Doha, Qatar. His students have continued their education at prestigious institutions in Germany, the United States, France, and the Netherlands.

As a performer, Paliev regularly collaborates with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the National Opera and Ballet of Bulgaria, Classic FM Orchestra, Philharmonia of the Nations (Germany), Justus Franz Orchestra, Würth Symphony Orchestra, the Macedonian Radio and Television Orchestra, and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. His concert activity includes performances in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Greece, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States, Japan, China, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and other countries. He has also served as a jury member at the international competition “Young Virtuosos.” In addition, he has participated in numerous studio recordings for film and television productions, as well as for international music projects. Among them is his participation in the album “Bartók & Babin: Piano Concertos” with Piano Duo Genova & Dimitrov, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Yordan Kamdzhalov, released by the label Classic Produktion Osnabrück (CPO), as well as projects involving Hector Zazou and the same label.

Paliev has actively participated in masterclasses and seminars with some of the most prominent figures in the percussion world, including Siegfried Fink, Peter Sadlo, Li Biao, Igor Lešnik, Giovanni Hidalgo, Leigh Howard Stevens, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Alain Ginter, Katarzyna Myćka, and others.

He is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, including first prizes at the National Competition “Svetoslav Obretenov” (1994 and 2000), the National Competition “Young Musical Talents” (1996, 1998, and 2000), as well as first prizes and special awards at the National Competition “Prof. Dr. Dobri Paliev – Prof. Dr. h.c. Siegfried Fink” (2001) for solo percussion and chamber music. He also received a special award for the performance of music by J. S. Bach at an international percussion seminar in Zagreb (1997). In 2001, he was awarded a Yamaha scholarship and is a laureate of the “PRIZ 2000” award for outstanding artistic achievements.
